Expenditures of Local Governments in South Carolina (counties, cities, and school districts) grew 215.5% over the 20 years spanning Fiscal Year 1993 to Fiscal Year 2014, rising faster than Gross State Product (145%), State Personal Income (168%), and inflation plus population growth (94.1%). This data, from the Fiscal Year 2014 Local Government Finance Report, shows varied growth across counties, with overall spending declining during for two years following the onset of the Great Recession.
Adjusting for real 2014 US $, per capita expenditures grew 45.8% over the 21 year period, from $2,190 per person (in 2014 $) in 1993 to $3,193 in 2014.
